Nokia X Camera Ported to Android 4.1+ Devices

While the Nokia X isn’t exactly the lust-inducing, flagship-caliber device that we were all hoping for from the Finnish OEM’s entrance into the Android world, the device and its software are still rather intriguing.
In addition to making the Nokia X more functional by shoehorning external development onto the device, we’ve also seen porting efforts to bring some of the Nokia X’s software to other devices. This began withporting the Nokia Store to other devices, and we later saw the Nokia X ROM running on the HTC HD2… well, sort of. Now thanks to the efforts of XDA Senior Member xperiaz2, you can enjoy the Nokia X’s camera software on nearly any device running Jelly Bean or later.
As you can see in the screenshots to your right, the Nokia X camera software has some pretty nifty settings. These include ISO sensitivity control, the ability to display a live intensity histogram, configurable noise detection, redeye reduction, anti-banding, and more. All’s not perfect with the camera app, however, as the resultant pictures are stored with very high compression. Additionally, the port seems to have mixed results when running on other devices. For example, some have stated that while the actual camera functionality works fine, it causes a Gallery force close after recording a video.
If you want a taste of the Nokia X camera experience on your own device, head over to theported app thread and give this a go.
Update: It seems as if XDA Senior Member opssemnik has ported an even more functional version of the Nokia X camera to all 4.1+ devices. This version fixes many of the force closes that were encountered in the version above.

Force Activities to Open as New Tasks with Xposed Module

The ability to launch one application from within another is certainly not a new feature. It is, however, incredibly useful and something so matter of fact that many of us probably rarely acknowledge it. While this might be a very useful feature, it isn’t exactly perfect and still has a little room for improvement. You may have previously noticed that after launching one application from within another, it more often than not doesn’t appear independently in the task manager, which obviously makes multitasking a little more awkward than it needs to be.
ActivityForceNewTask is an Xposed module from XDA Forum Moderator GermainZ that does exactly as the name suggests and forces activities launched within applications to create a new task, allowing for much easier switching between the two. Obviously, this has the potential to cause issues with certain applications. However, reports of breakage so far are minimal. Should you encounter any unwanted results from using this module, there are both whitelist and blacklist options available to set exactly which apps this will affect.
As mentioned, this is an Xposed Module so you will need the Xposed Framework to get started. It is also completely free and open source, which is nice. You can find more info and the download link in the original thread.

Add Enter Key to Hangouts with Smali Editing

The Hangouts app is loved by some and hated by others, who prefer the good old fashioned Google Talk. Unfortunately, Hangouts has a few issues that are quite annoying, such as the lack of a return key when returning messages. But fear not because with a bit of patience and a willingness to learn and some new tools, you will be able to change Hangouts to be more usable.
To do this, you need APKtool and a guide written by XDA Recognized Contributor CNexus. To make the necessary modifications, you need to have the Hangouts application extracted from your device. Keep in mind that Hangouts is updated from time to time, so you would need to repeat the process after every update. After decompiling the application, you need to enter few Smali lines and compile it again. With a little dose of luck, your Hangouts application will show your onscreen keyboard’s enter key rather than the smiley key.
To learn more about the process, head over to the original guide thread.

CyanogenMod 11 Available for the HTC Desire Z

In recent months, we have talked about various devices getting official and unofficial KitKat builds. Some devices were never slated to receive and update due to technical limitations, but developers have spent countless hours porting device trees, libraries, and kernels to iron out bugs and squeeze the most performance from these older devices. The level of success is different for every device, but people have tried crossed some pretty impressive boundaries.
The HTC Desire Z was released in late 2010, and it is one of the few smartphones that offers a physical keyboard. A little over 3 years after its launch, the Desire Z received an unofficial port of KitKat by XDA Recognized Developer Flinny, who ported CyanogenMod 11 to the Vision and Saga. The ROM is still considered alpha, but a list of working things is getting longer from one release to another. It’s impressive to see older devices getting so much support from developers.
A change log, links, and release notes can be found in the development thread.

Development Arrives on the MediaTek 6589T-Powered Wiko Stairway

Due to their bargain basement prices and high apparent value, it should come as no surprise that MediaTek devices are growing in popularity—especially in emerging markets such as India. But because of a frequent lack of GPL compliance and nonexistent developer openness, original development for these devices is slim to none.
Luckily, there is still progress being made on these devices. And despite an uphill battle, development is happening thanks to source code leaks and the hard work of developers like XDA Senior Recognized Developer Xplodwild and Senior Member Dr-Shadow in filling the gaps. And now after anunnecessarily long journey spearheaded by Forum Member bucefal82, quite a lot has been accomplished.
XDA Recognized Developer chrmhoffmann recently released a KitKat 4.4.2-based work-in-progress CM11 build for the Wiko Stairway. Currently, a decent amount is functional, including the device’s primary SIM, audio, sensors, WiFi, and application support. However, it’s not quite daily driver capable for most, as the camera, second SIM, hardware video decoding, GPS, GPU acceleration, and a few other items are still broken. Despite this, it’s good to see development advancing on the device, and on these closed platforms in general. And since the device runs on the MediaTek 6589T SoC, which is also seen on various other budget-friendly devices, so it’s only a matter of time before this also benefits other MediaTek device owners.
If you own a Wiko Stairway and would like to try out an unofficial CM11 build on your device, or if you own another MediaTek device and wish to port the ROM over, head over to theoriginal thread to get started.
[Many thanks to XDA Portal Supporter Titokhan for the tip!]

Google to Enter Set-Top Gaming with Latest Acquisition?

While Android-powered gaming devices haven’t exactly replaced modern consoles in the quest for your living room-based entertainment needs, they’re certainly gaining steam. While this essentially started with the Ouya, there are now many other Android-based gaming systems available such as the Nvidia Shield and the Madcatz MOJO. Google, however, has been curiously absent in this arena, but that may change faily soon.
Yesterday, Google acquired parts of Santa Clara-based Green Throttle Games. The company, which met its untimely demise four months ago, sold a custom wireless gaming controller that allowed for couch-friendly Android gaming. Many details surrounding the acquisition and its terms have yet to come to light, but we do know that the acquisition includes some of the talent from Green Throttle Games.
It’s nice to see Google take some initiative to bolster its gaming, regardless of how far off the fruits of this acquisition may be. Is an Android-based gaming console something that interests you, or are you more content with a PS4 and/or Xbox One? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Blur or Dim Images with Tholotis

Few things tell us more than an image. Our brains decode image much faster than other forms of information such as text, sound, and so on. Even when meeting new people, first impressions are largely based on visual cues. Android is no different, and the XDA community is home to lots of themes, mods, and wallpapers to make our favorite operating system look better.
You can do countless things with image, but you require good software to apply some effects or filters. Sadly, most of this software is available only on traditional computers, and can’t be done with a phone. It’s a shame because nowadays, Android devices are capable of doing almost everything from make calls to controlling cars. If you ever wanted to play with your images directly on your device, XDA Recognized Contributor Chris95X8, made a simple application that allows you to dim, blur, and save the modified images on your phone. The app is very minimal, and can do wonders with your favorite wallpapers to make them even better.
You can find Tholotis by visiting the application thread. So if you are interested, pick your favorite image and make it even more beautiful with ease.

Micromax Canvas 4 Coming soon

As Micromax released Teasers of Micromax Canvas 4,successor of Micromax A110 and A116...We expect its a great Phone from Micromax yet seen till now,Unlike previous Canvas Phones..No Info is available about this device except some sites say their expectations....

This Image from within the teaser gave us the only info that its a 13MP Camera...So it will be capable of recording 1080p @ 30fps....Hope so

This is another image from the second teaser, I saw somesites say that the 8 Images of Canvas 4 shows it to be a Octa-Core CPU...If its a Oct-Core,no doubt its a Galaxy S4 Opponent in India..But with current statistics from Micromax it should be Quad-core...If it features 2GB RAM,it will be having Turbo edition of MT6589 namely 6589T....

It will most probably having a Mediatek CPU or may be some another CPU....If its Mediatek,i dont think its a Octa_Core and if its another CPU,the cost will be higher than normal people can carry in their pockets..

Life can never be Endless for Sure,so expecting a lot from Micromax this time...
